A number of years ago, Communitas was able to qualify for a free Google Workspace account as a 501c3 charitable group. The account was established when Communitas was still known as Christian Associates. This is why all accounts are created as @christianassociates.org. This won't change. Each user will always need to sign into Google Workspace (for email, files, shared calendars, etc.) with their account name followed by @christianassociates.org.
In 2016, with the change to Communitas, the @gocommunitas.org alias was created. This means that, for every @christianassociates.org account created, a @gocommunitas.org email alias is automatically created. Although email can be sent to either account, the @gocommunitas.org alias is preferred for outside use. This will allow us to promote the Communitas name, and will make it easier for our recipients to find other Communitas resources under @gocommunitas.org, such as the external Communitas web site - www.gocommunitas.org.
Every account has also been given a new alias, with a new format - firstname.lastname@gocommunitas.org. This means that a user named "John Smith" would have the email address of john.smith@gocommunitas.org. The naming of accounts has changed over the years, and this allows everyone to have a consistent email address. The use of this email alias is encouraged for all correspondence outside of Communitas.
When your email address is set up, you automatically have an email address for @christianassociates.org and @gocommunitas.org (as explained above). For those who have an account set up under an older naming convention -- NOT firstname.lastname@christianassociates.org -- that alias has also been created. If requested, we are happy to provide a family alias as well. This alias is given to families for the purpose of supporter correspondence -- lastname.family@christianassociates.org.
This alias can be used in correspondence, by choosing the desired alias during email creation (web-browser version only).
